He has contributed to various software projects in these fields, and he founded Project Danube, an open code and advocacy project. Markus has worked a developer and consultant for American startups, for the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet & Society, and for the MIT Media Lab. He is especially engaged in topics related to user-centric identity and personal data online, and he is active in a number of organizations and communities in these areas, such as the FreedomBox, the Federated Social Web, the Personal Data Ecosystem, or Vendor Relationship Management.
