Vortrag: Python for Social Good

Ethicalhacking

As we lead more and more of our lives online, the world of technology is getting interleaved with real-world problems. Social networks and fake news are used to manipulate voters, troll-bots deployed to disrupt democratic processes, large DDoS attacks used as modern-day warfare… How can we as a society defend against such methods? In this talk we will go over these modern-day battlegrounds and see if there is a way to help make some things right using Python.

From botnets of compromised refrigerators bringing down parts of the Internet infrastructure to analytics teams profiling & manipulating millions of people to affect their voting decisions. Sometimes it seems that traditional checks and balances of civil society might not be ready to cope with new digital challenges that sound like they came from a James Bond movie. Can we as Python engineers and data scientists direct more of our open source, volunteering, but also professional work to social good? In this talk we will look at the problems our society is facing today. We will examine good examples of defensive and offensive strategies engineers are already taking to help keep the bad guys at bay. We will also go over some calls for action and give you ideas of how you can help too!
