Vortrag: Privacy Pi

The private path through the Internet

Event large

Public hotspots are most likely insecure and one does not know, what other users or even the hotspot’s owner may do with our data. The PrivacyPi is a Plug-and-Play solution as easy as pairing two Blutooth devices, tackling this problem in order to access public hotspots in a secure and private way. Two Raspberry Pis form the PrivacyPi; One serving as a VPN server and the other as a mobile VPN Gateway, providing the user with a usable and secure access to the Internet.

This talk will highlight what security breaches can arise from using public hotspots, based on that the Privacy Pi will be motivated and our approach to solve this problem will be presented. We will show which challenges had to be solved in order to make this solution usable for non-expert users, as these persons are most likely unaware of the risks. So we decided to directly address them with an easy to use and cheap solution that will be publicly available under an open source licence as soon as possible. The talk will be closed with a short demonstration of our current prototype.
