Let's look at the progress it has made recently

The FreedomBox is a small Linux server that gives you more privacy and control over your personal data and communication. We will look at the current state of the project and play with a few boxes during the workshop.

The FreedomBox is a small Linux server that gives you more privacy and control over your personal data and communication. It can be your online profile, personal data store, and your node in a decentralized social network. Recently the project has made a lot of progress, adding support for services such as OwnCloud, Tor, and PageKite. During the session I can hand out a few boxes for people to experiment with. They will be able to do a number of things, such as storing files on the box, running so-called "unhosted" applications, or adding RDF Linked Data to the box in various ways.
The FreedomBox is designed to be the antithesis of the cloud, a solution to the current Internet landscape that is so heavily centralized. Work like this is obviously politically important, and also a lot of fun.
